The car now has
a LS3 376 CI/480 Hp GM Performance Crate Engine - GM Performance
4L70E Transmission and 3000 Stall Torque Converter . The color is
A Custom Mixed Charcoal Gray - The Interior is a Terra Cotta
Leather with Carbon Fiber Accents. My builder was Designer
Street Rods in Cleveland, Georgia who did everything except the
Interior that was Done by Paul Atkins Interiors in
Hanceville, Alabama.
The car was originally from
Pennsylvania and had a 6 cylinder engine a 3 speed transmission. I
am not sure how it ended up in Georgia, But the way I have heard
the Story before I got it was that a couple of friends from
Clarkesville GA., Clavin Waters and Kenny Canup, I believe, built
a very strong 327 cubic inch engine and installed it along with a
Muncie 4 speed transmission in the 57. Bobby Canup, my cousin,
bought it from Clavin and Kenny and drove it for a while and just
so happened I was looking for something to drive. I can't remeber
exactly why I was needing a ride but it could be that I sold a 49
ford that I had been driving to Warren Brown. This all happened in
the 1970-71 timeframe. I drove it a a while and found I couldn't
stay out of the gas so cluthes and rearends were something I had
to replace pretty often so I bought a 1964 Impala that had been
hit in the side and totaled. I took the 327ci 300hp engine out of
it and swapped it with the built 327. It was still strong but I was
able to keep cluthes and rearends under it. Then in 1978 something
went wrong, I was told the diapharm in the fuel pump burst and
pumped the block full of gas and the engine started trying to
seize, so I shut it down and pulled the engine with the intent of
rebuilding it but I had something else I was driving to so long
story short it never got rebuilt and the car sat in my open pole
barn till 2008 (I'm guessing on this date). Then I started buying
parts and decide to start the restoration. Another cousin has a
shop and was working on it when he had back problems and could
keep going with it.... so back home it came, only to sit idle
again. So about that time we needed to do some work on the house
and then after that we needed a camper and then a Kitchen remodel.
So by then I decided to change all my original ideas so the 350
330hp crate motor i had in the basement wasn't in the plan. So I
started going down the fuel injection path. Now it is done Rodney
and Tanya Beasley and Jerry who's last name I haven't a clue at
Designer Street Rods, and Paul Atkins along with Rick ( whom I
made a point to call and see how it was going every Tuesday) along
with all the guys in the Interior Shop Did a first class job.
Thanks to everyone who helped us during this process. |
